Andrews Family Moves into First House Built By Lander Chapter of Habitat for Humanity

Christmas came early for Wendi Andrews and her children, Miracle and Chance, when they were handed the keys to the first house built by the Lander University chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

Andrews, speaking during the Sunday, Dec. 11, dedication service, called the opportunity to own her own home “a dream come true.”

GCCF Provides Community Enhancement Grants, August 2016

Grant recipients in our 2016 Community Enhancement granting cycle offer programs and projects that enhance our quality of life in Greenwood County. They are:

Arts Center of Greenwood for outreach summer art camps, held in area community centers and churches in target areas

Festiva for professional artists’ fees to provide performances open to the community with no admission fee

Greenwood Community Theatre for development of a theatre program for children with special needs

Greenwood Festival Chorale for music purchase and orchestra expenses for concerts presented by this community vocal ensemble

Greenwood Performing Arts in support of outreach performances for students and senior citizens

Healthy Learners to provide for transportation costs and medical expenses for school-age children with limited resources

Innovation Grant Funds Community Impact, June 2016

Project Hope Foundation, a Greenville-based organization that offers a wide range of services to individuals who fall along the Autism spectrum, was awarded $50,000 through the Greenwood County Community Foundation’s 2016 Innovation granting cycle. This grant will be used for the establishment of an Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy program in Greenwood. ABA has proven to be transformative therapy in the lives of those with Autism.

GCCF’s Innovation Grant supports creative ideas that foster strategic change within the Greenwood County community, generate collective excitement because of their originality and courageous approach to addressing root causes of systemic problems or deficiencies, and contribute to a healthy, thriving community.

The Foundation’s board of directors actively seek proposals that stretch the imagination and enrich lives, while fostering collaboration and partnerships among organizations when considering applications for the Innovation Grant.

Youth & Education Grants Awarded by GCCF, April 2016

Youth & Education Grants have been awarded to these six organizations for programs and projects in Greenwood County:

Greenwood Community Improvement Foundation for Student Leadership Conference for local high school students

Greenwood Family Y for training for and implementation of Safety Around Water program for children and families

A Place for Us Ministries to enable residents to obtain GEDs, and to receive employment training and other development and mentoring services

SC Festival of Flowers to fund Youth Topiary project in the annual SC Festival of Flowers: 2017 Kidfest program

SC Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics for CREATEng engineering summer camp for Greenwood County students to be held at Lander University

United Way of Greenwood and Abbeville Counties for the “Stuff the Bus” distribution of school supplies for children with limited resources
