Youth & Education Grants Awarded by GCCF, April 2019

2019 Youth & Education Grants have been awarded to the following eight organizations serving Greenwood County:

City of Greenwood in support of a community mosquito education program

Community Initiatives for a Safe Haven reading specialist

Food Bank of Greenwood County for the Weekend Backpack Program

Goodwill Industries for CNA uniforms for participants in Job Connection training

Healthy Learners for staff and client transportation

The Homeless Period Project for feminine hygiene supplies for middle school girls in need

The Museum and Railroad Historical Center for summer camp scholarships

Wild Hare Productions in support of scholarships and expenses for a youth musical theatre summer intensive workshop and performances

GCCF Funds Open Granting Awards, December 2018

GCCF gave grants in our 2018 Open Granting cycle to the following organizations to fund specific programs or projects:

Alston Wilkes Society for staff salary and client workshop materials

Beyond Abuse for protective awnings at agency site

Connie Maxwell Children’s Home for “Fostering Families” program

Engaging Men of Color for “Standing Firm to be My Brother’s Keeper” conference expenses

Greenwood Pathway House for a commercial dishwasher for the men’s shelter

Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont for furnishing a community room at the palliative care center

Immanuel Lutheran Church Soup Kitchen for purchase and installation of an AED

Meg’s House  for client transportation to places of employment

United Center for Community Care (UCCC) for a digital information sign at UCCC highlighting nonprofits housed and services offered at UCCC

Community Initiatives for vehicle expenses for transport of Safe Haven schoolchildren

Cornerstone  for collaborative community campaign about opioids abuse and related issues

Emerald City Rotary Foundation in support of the Imagination Library project

Goodwill Industries for job training programs at Greenwood site

Healthy Learners for transportation for medical services for school-age children with limited resources and for staff support

Community Initiatives for educational consulting services, staff training, and materials for summer literacy program at Safe Haven

Greenwood Family Y for purchase of SEAL SwimSafe system

Healthy Learners to provide for transportation costs and medical expenses for school-age children with limited resources

La Puerta de Esperanza in support of summer mentoring and development program

A Place for Us Ministries to enable residents to obtain GEDs, and to receive employment training and other development and mentoring services

SC Governor’s School of Science and Mathematics for CREATEng engineering summer camp for Greenwood County students to be held at Lander University

United Way of Greenwood and Abbeville Counties — for the “Stuff the Bus” program that provides school supplies for children with limited resources

GCCF Provides Community Enhancement Grants, August 2016

Grant recipients in our 2016 Community Enhancement granting cycle offer programs and projects that enhance our quality of life in Greenwood County. They are:

Arts Center of Greenwood for outreach summer art camps, held in area community centers and churches in target areas

Festiva for professional artists’ fees to provide performances open to the community with no admission fee

Greenwood Community Theatre for development of a theatre program for children with special needs

Greenwood Festival Chorale for music purchase and orchestra expenses for concerts presented by this community vocal ensemble

Greenwood Performing Arts in support of outreach performances for students and senior citizens

Healthy Learners to provide for transportation costs and medical expenses for school-age children with limited resources

Innovation Grant Funds Community Impact, June 2016

Project Hope Foundation, a Greenville-based organization that offers a wide range of services to individuals who fall along the Autism spectrum, was awarded $50,000 through the Greenwood County Community Foundation’s 2016 Innovation granting cycle. This grant will be used for the establishment of an Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy program in Greenwood. ABA has proven to be transformative therapy in the lives of those with Autism.

GCCF’s Innovation Grant supports creative ideas that foster strategic change within the Greenwood County community, generate collective excitement because of their originality and courageous approach to addressing root causes of systemic problems or deficiencies, and contribute to a healthy, thriving community.

The Foundation’s board of directors actively seek proposals that stretch the imagination and enrich lives, while fostering collaboration and partnerships among organizations when considering applications for the Innovation Grant.
